Microcarriers

Microcarriers are used to give adhesive cells increased growing area while in suspension. This allows you to enhance the density of cells within a bioreactor, growing biomass easily and efficiently without relying on ACF components. 

Our microcarriers, can also add taste, texture or nutrients to your product after cell culture.

Our microcarriers can be customized to the following parameters:

  • Structure - Fibrous or Beadlike
  • Size  - 100 μm-800μm
  • Material - We work with a wide variety of plant-based, core materials. 
  • Surface modifications - We have an array of different bioactive and surface activation methods to enhance cell adhesion and guide cell behavior.


Furthermore, our microcarriers can be introduced into down-stream processes such as differentiation scaffolding and 3D printing without removal of the cells.

Scaffolds

Scaffolds give a meat-like 3D structure and provide a framework for differentiation. We make both plant-based and synthetic scaffolds for different applications within the plant-based,  cultivated meat and cultivated dairy spaces.

Our scaffolds and coatings are 100% ACF and highly customizable to mimic muscle structure.

This creates meat texture, supports differentiation, and provides mechanical and chemical cues to control cell behavior. 

Our plant-based scaffolds for meat scaffolds are: 

  • Edible and food-safe
  • Designed with a controlled structure and texture (aligned or random fibers; stiffness) to accommodate cell adhesion and mimic meat texture
  • Designed for a customizable nutrient profile 
  • Adaptable for use in downstream processes
  • Customizable via surface modifications and bioactive molecules to support cell adhesion and differentiation 
  • Designed with nanofibers (700 nm-15 um)
  • Designed with microfibers (100 and up)

Our synthetic scaffolds for milk companies: 

  • Supports cell attachment for diverse cell lines
  • Can be customized for time-triggered release for bioactive molecules to the dermal surface of the cells
  • Has controlled 3D structure (aligned or randomized fiber orientation)
  • Can be customized for mechanical properties (stiffness modulus)
