Please reach out to info@matrixfood.tech for customized help and usage guidelines for your specific products.
We focus on building a tool kit that allows us to provide customized support for any adherent cell line.
Our microcarriers, scaffolds, and surface coatings are all 100% animal component-free. This is a core part of our business-we will never put any animal-derived components onto or into our products. We wanted to tackle this problem from the beginning, so you won’t have to worry about it down the road.
Microcarriers are small scaffolds that are meant to be used within a bioreactor with adhesive cells to increase the growing area and efficiently scale cell mass. Once you have a desired amount of cells, they can be introduced into scaffolds, which are made to mimic the fibrous structure of meat. Scaffolds give a framework for differentiation and textural support to make a whole cut of meat.
We take IP extremely seriously here at Matrix. We don’t even share images of your cells grown on our scaffolds without express written consent. You are working with us the entire time because we use our basic IP to help everyone, but do not share the opinions of any collaborator with another. Plus, there are no one-size-fits-all solutions-from our experience the likelihood of the recipe that is ideal for you working for anyone else is very low due to your unique cell lines, culture media, bioreactors, and processes.
If you have more questions about how we protect IP, please see the Data Sharing FAQ.
We use a variety of materials for different types of customers. All materials and coatings are 100% animal component-free.
For meat companies, we focus on edible and/or degradable materials that are plant based; for milk companies we can use a variety of plant based or synthetic materials.
Do you have a favorite material? Reach out and we’d love to chat with you about it.
We can change: 1. The base material; 2. The coating material; 3. The mechanical properties;
4. The diameter of the microcarrier or fibrous structure; 5. The surface topography of the material;
6. The macrostructure of a fibrous mat (aligned/unaligned, other).
Yes, we do in-house sterilization before shipping. If you want to do sterilization on your side, please discuss the sterilization techniques with your M.F.T. representative beforehand-our materials can be sensitive to ethanol or autoclaving.
Great question!
We start off with an mNDA so that we can discuss what kind of customizations will elevate your processes. We send out free samples and will continue to do so as long as we’re getting evaluation surveys returned within two months (See: How do you protect my IP?)
We also offer contract research services to accelerate finding the perfect products for you.
Once we find the perfect product, we set aside that recipe under an exclusive manufacturing agreement-and we will only ever manufacture that specific microcarrier or scaffold for your company.
We hold all IP on our products and modifications on our products-and we protect your IP around your cells and processes.
